Center for Mission Engineering Hosts Inaugural Mission Engineering and Integration Workshop

From December 10–12, 2024, Old Dominion University’s Center for Mission Engineering (CME) held a Mission Engineering and Integration (ME&I) Workshop led by Dr. James Moreland, a leading expert in the field.

The workshop focused on ME and explored key topics such as mission analysis, mission architectures, building mission threads, success metrics, systems of systems integration, and interoperability.

Participants from ODU, NSWC Dahlgren Division, NSWC DD Dam Neck Activity, NAVAIR, and Newport News Shipyard worked in teams to apply these concepts to real-world scenarios, developing practical solutions that were presented on the final day. The cohort’s diversity allowed for discussions and knowledge sharing of how Mission Engineering (ME) is being implemented in their organizations and what opportunities and challenges it poses.

At the end of the workshop, participants were awarded certificates of completion to acknowledge their efforts.

Equipped with background ME knowledge and fundamental skills, the participants agreed that an ME&I bootcamp with a project-based structure would be an excellent opportunity to expand those highly in-demand skills. Excellent feedback was provided and will be incorporated in our 2025 events.

Stay tuned for more learning opportunities at CME in 2025 to include a Mission Engineering Competency workshop!

MISSION FIRST, PEOPLE ALWAYS!
