Mission Engineering and Integration Workshop: Advancing Collaboration and Innovation

Another win for the Mission Engineering Community!

From April 15-18, 2025, the Center for Mission Engineering (CME) conducted a dynamic Mission Engineering and Integration Workshop, proudly sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division’s M Department. The event, which took place in Dahlgren, VA, brought together nineteen engaged participants who organized themselves into productive and enthusiastic teams. Throughout the workshop, these teams tackled challenging assignments and delivered high-quality Mission Engineering products that not only addressed the scenario but also advanced mission-focused thinking. We were fortunate to have the Mission Engineering icon, Dr. Jim Moreland as our lead instructor.

A highlight of the workshop was Dr. Braden McGrath’s participation from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he serves as a professor of practice in digital engineering. Dr. McGrath’s contributions were invaluable, and his presence reflects the growing strategic partnership between our organizations. This collaboration will be instrumental as we apply Mission Engineering methodologies to accelerate and advance AUKUS security and defense interests.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this phenomenal event. The energy, expertise, and teamwork on display demonstrate the strength and promise of the Mission Engineering community.

Stay tuned as we begin planning for another training workshop in the fall. Initial discussions include a wider audience across NSWC DD (interdisciplinary), synchronize the event with a UNSW workshop, and conduct an AUKUS-based scenario ME hackathon.

MISSION FIRST, PEOPLE ALWAYS!
